The project is driven by the story: “By ‘listening to the scent’, the five senses are sharpened, and one is enveloped in a sense of transcending time and space. We want to create a flow where new discoveries emerge as one becomes inwardly refined and awakened to a new self.” From April 2025 to March 2026, the project will announce new businesses, projects, and products from three perspectives: “Listening to the Past,” “Listening to the Present,” and “Listening to the Future.”

As the era shifts toward seeking not only material wealth but also unseen spiritual values and emotional fulfillment, and as the value of the “authentic” receives greater attention, our group aims to offer opportunities through the experience of “listening to the scent” to awaken a sense of transcending time and space and to deepen one’s sensitivity.

The first phase of announcements includes the release of the book “Nippon no Koh (The Scent of Japan),” the specially named incense “Rakoku Shirabe” by Gyosui Sanjonishi, 23rd Grand Master of Oie-ryu Kodo, the reproduction of the “Six Blended Incenses (Mukusa no Takimono)” from the Heian period, as well as the Nippon Kodo Holdings commemorative product “Akigasumi (Dawn Haze)” and the Koju commemorative product “Takai Juemon 2025 No.4.”

New Incense Release: Koju's Takai Juemon 2025 No.4
Koju, founded in Kyoto at the beginning of the Tensho era (late 16th century) with Yasuda Mataemon Minamoto no Mitsuhiro, a descendant of the Seiwa Genji clan, as its first head, served the Imperial Palace.
The fourth-generation Koju was summoned by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and established the brand’s reputation in Kyoto while traveling between Sunpu and Edo.
The eighth-generation Koju in the Edo period, Takai Juemon, was a master of incense known in the tea ceremony world as Kougushi Juemon (Incense Artisan Juemon). The records left by Juemon detail a number of Koju’s distinguished kneaded incense (neri-kō), including the famous “Chitose,” which was presented to Emperor Kōkaku, as well as various masterpieces consistently supplied to the grand masters of different schools of the tea ceremony.
As the eighth head, he left behind the “Koju Takai Juemon Family’s Notes on Neri-kō Blending,” which conveys his techniques and philosophy to the present day.

This masterpiece, bearing the name “Takai Juemon,” was created with the finest incense ingredients and the latest technology, carefully and wholeheartedly inheriting this tradition.
It is a fresh scent where the transparent gardenia and flamboyant rose harmonize with frankincense and sandalwood.
